Aquadis is the name given to a type of mussel. This type of mussel is white in color and is frequently consumed in Mediterranean cuisine. The Aquadis collected in the shallow areas of the Gulf of Izmir are sent abroad based on the informal economy. The workers, who are frequently raided by the authorities, earn their living on a daily wage basis. Most Kurdish workers learn to swim and dive here. Young workers even go through a three-month training period on a small island when they come from their homeland. They live in huts and tents they have built themselves and spend nine months of the year in these living spaces.Among the male workers who return to their families with the start of the summer months, there are those who have been doing this job for forty years. This photo-interview work was done collectively with photographer Sinan Kılıç between 2013 and 2014.
